There is no hockey today. None. You'd think that the Vancouver Olympics would pack tons of hockey into every possible scheduling slot, but no: no Sunday matinees. Too many other sports are going on for NBC to know that the NHL exists, so we don't have any 12:30PM holy showdowns. Really today is basically worthless.
In searching for reasons that hockey may have taken a one-day respite, PH Staff has determined that it is an early celebration of October 19, or Constitution Day on the island nation of Niue. We celebrate that shit every year, too.
Moving on. . .
Did you see Matt Duchene score yet? It's pretty cool. If you needed to come here to hear about it, you're either really busy or following hockey isn't your strong suit. i.e. we're late on this, sorry. NICE MOVE THOUGH MATTHEW HUGS+KISSES
The Islanders and the Maple Leafs still can't win, despite the fact that they could have on multiple occasions.
It's not like they're going into games with zero chance.
The Phoenix Coyotes, who have very few big-name players, are all but homeless, and by all accounts shouldn't be going into buildings with a chance to win, are currently (by however little) atop the Pacific Division. Addition by subtraction: Wayne Gretzky has no coaching ability whatsoever. He and Eddie Olcyzk need to join a club and that club is called "Predetermined Bans from the Muskrats Organization." *shudder*
As an aside to this whole day, what the fuck is with this NHL.com poll:
At least the public has their heads on straight. "No way" is pretty much the only way to answer this question.
Who are the 6.34% of voters who think this will actually happen? Where do they live? Can we speak to them or do they communicate only in eye blinks? How long has it been since the drugs destroyed their minds?
At any rate, Tuesday is St. Louis.
It's Cupcake's old team so he should be ready to fuck them up and take their lunch money.
The Blues have Conkblock now, and he just posted a shutout. Chances we'll see him? We'd research it, but we're too busy making a Jay McKee shot-blocking highlight reel and preparing baked goods for him.
Feel free to join us.
GO PENS.

WTF NHL

They must have asked that question at NHL.com just to see if people were really paying attention or something.
Can't believe how badly both the Isles and the Leafs are doing, but I'm happy to watch the Coyotes step up.
Can't believe there's absolutely no hockey today, either. I was forced to clean the house and concentrate on furniture refinishing projects most of the day, and I'll bet everyone else was good and productive, too. That's no way to live! Oh, well, it'll be fun to see how McKee does against his old teammates.
NHL is so full of random today. Lolz. They need to start scheduling hockey every day, just for my sanity (and yours). And Tuesdayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Club seats. Yesssssssssssssss.
yay for a blocked shots reel!
in the meantime...

please forgive me, this is my first one ever.
So glad you picked up on that crazy NHL poll. I literally did a "You have GOT to be kidding me" when I saw that in the office the other day. "No way," party of one please?
The name Eddie Olcyzk makes me think of two things: "I coached Sid" ad nauseum, and "Edzo," which makes me think of Pierre McGuire, which makes me involuntarily barf. Ugh.
Matty Duchene (will the nickname "Doosh" catch on? No? I mean it in the best of ways, truly!) getting his first against Chris Osgood is oh so sweet. NHL, despite the poll fail, pulled through with a nifty fact sheet and apparently, all the notable rooks have notched points now. Osgood=still fat.
@Caitlin: To quote "Apocalypse Now," Oh, the cupcakes! Well done.
Days without hockey are sad days. Toronto is an epic fail, Matt Duchene is badass and Saturday night, the Blues blanked Anaheim 5 - 0. Doesn't matter though, McKee and the Pens will come through.
MadMax84 - I've been wondering the same thing about "Doosh", just 'cause, what else can they call him?
MAXIMUM Talbot was back on the ice today in a striking red "non-contact" jersey. AS IF you need a different colored jersey to make SuperStar stand out? PLEEEEEEASE!
It was a beautiful day in Pittsburg!!!
PENS!!!!
Check out this link. Although it is a seriously fat-free-milk version of anything that would ever be seen on PH, it's still worth mentioning because they give a nod to both Cappy and our beloved Petr.
